How does Reverso's translation work?

How can I benefit from a free trial?
All you need to do is sign up! You will receive 2,500 credits for free, allowing you to translate up to 2,500 words. Beyond that, you can either subscribe to one of our plans or simply purchase the additional credits you need. Please note that you need to be Premium to translate Scanned PDFs, typically obtained when using the office scanner or converting an image file to PDF.
Which languages are supported?
Translate from or to any of the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Romanian, Polish, Dutch (Flemish), Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hebrew, Turkish or Japanese.
Which file formats are supported?
Translate any document containing clear text, in Word (.doc, .docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xls, .xlsx), CSV (.csv), HTML (.html), XML (.xml), Text (.txt), PDF (.pdf), or any technical file (PO, RESX, String, XLIFF, etc.). Note that Scanned PDFs, obtained by photographing/scanning pages, are only available for Premium users. Find out more about Premium access.
How does the credit system work?
One credit = One word to translate. Note that html or xml tags, such as <body>, <b>, etc. are not translated and not deducted from your credits.
Can I translate PDFs?
You can translate PDFs of 250 pages maximum. Note that the simpler the PDF layout, the better the result, especially for right to left languages (Arabic & Hebrew). If your PDF has images in it, please refer to the Scanned PDF explanation. If your document contains more pages, we recommend you convert it into a Word document, or divide it into smaller PDF files.
What are Scanned PDF documents and can Reverso translate them?
Scanned PDFs contain scanned/photographed images of pages, typically obtained when using the office scanner or converting an image file to PDF. If you have Premium access, you can translate any PDF document as long as it has clear texts in it. Please make sure the images are of high quality, the texts are not handwritten and there's no watermark on the background. Once you have Premium access, you can enable OCR from your account settings. Can I translate a document containing images?
If your document is in PDF format, you can translate images with text only if you're a Premium user (refer to the Scanned PDF topic).
If your document is in other formats, images, with or without text, will be copied but not translated.
Can I modify the translated document before download?
Yes, the revision feature allows you to easily compare each sentence in your document, in the original language VS the target language. You can validate the translation or modify it. You can also invite colleagues to participate in this revision process.
How is Reverso Documents learning from my translation revisions?
When you revise a document, you can save your changes in your translation memory and then apply these changes to future translations.
What's the difference between subscribing and purchasing one-time credits?
Subscriptions are automatically renewed, unlike one-time purchases and provide a lower price rate per word. They are ideal for users looking to make regular translations or to translate large volumes. One-time purchases are ideal for users who have occasional translations. Whether you decide to subscribe or purchase one-time credits, you will be able to translate Scanned PDFs, typically obtained when using the office scanner or converting an image file to PDF.
Will my credits expire at the end of my subscription period?
No, they will not expire. If your subscription is renewed, the new credits included in your subscription will be added to the remaining ones. Otherwise, you will still be able to use your remaining credits after your subscription has expired.
How can I purchase additional credits?

Which plan should I choose to translate large volumes?
Our Annual Pro subscription offers the highest limit in volume and the best unit rate. If your needs exceed these limits, contact us and we'll build a solution tailored to your need.
Which plan should I choose to translate on a regular basis?
With our monthly subscriptions, translate up to 20,000 words per month, the equivalent of approximately 50 pages. To translate more pages, we recommend the annual subscriptions.
Which plan should I choose for a one-time project?
You can buy any amount of one-time credits with no engagement at all. If you want to benefit from lower unit rates, check out our subscription plans.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time; the subscription will not be automatically renewed and you will be able to keep your Premium access until the end of your subscription period. Please note that you will not be able to subscribe again, to any of our plans, before the end of your cancelled subscription period.
Can I change my subscription before the end of the subscription period?
Unfortunately, this is not allowed by our subscription system. If you cancel your subscription, you will not be able to subscribe again, to any of our plans, before the end of your cancelled subscription period. If you need to upgrade your subscription, please contact our support team.
How will I receive my invoices?
Your invoices will be sent to the email address you have configured in your account. For recurrent subscriptions, an invoice will be sent after each automatic renewal (monthly or annually).
What is VAT and should I enter the VAT number?
The Value Added Tax, or VAT, is a consumption tax applied to goods and services that are bought and sold for use or consumption in the European Union (EU). In France, VAT is charged for both individuals and professionals. If you are in the EU (excluding France), you can provide the name and registered VAT number of your company to benefit from the VAT exemption. If you're outisde the EU, the VAT will not be charged.
How does Reverso guarantee the confidentiality of my documents?
The documents you upload on our platform are only used for the translation jobs that you launch from your workspace. They are hosted on a private cloud and cannot be accessed by any third party. The Reverso Documents team can consult them only if you reach out for support. If you would like to ensure further security for highly confidential documents, you can delete them on your workspace and they will be deleted from our servers. How is my data protected?
The use of Reverso Documents is done through an encrypted connection to our servers. Your documents are only used for the translation purposes that you specify and no third party can access them. In addition, as a French company, Reverso is subject to the European GDPR regulation, and only uses servers based in Europe.
